Wingdings is a symbol font Microsoft shipped with Windows in 1992: instead of letters, every key produces a pictogram — a victory hand for A, a skull for N, a snowflake for T, zodiac signs for the lowercase letters. Text “written” in Wingdings looks like a mysterious symbolic cipher, which is exactly why people enjoy it.

Is this the real Wingdings font?

It's the same glyphs, delivered differently. The original Wingdings is a font: the underlying text is still ordinary letters that only display as symbols where the font is installed. Paste that text anywhere else and it reverts to plain letters. This tool instead substitutes each letter with the equivalent Unicode symbol, so what you copy stays symbolic everywhere. A few glyphs have no perfect Unicode twin, so the closest available symbol is used — and the decoder reverses the same mapping faithfully.
