Paraphrasing Tool

Rewrite your own draft in a different style — five modes, free, no sign-up, no watermark.

What is a paraphrasing tool?

A paraphrasing tool takes a sentence or passage and produces a differently worded version that keeps the same meaning. The cheap way to do that is a thesaurus swap: walk the text and replace each word with a synonym, which is how you get sentences like “the fast auburn fox vaults above the indolent canine” — grammatically intact, semantically strange, and obviously machine-made the moment a reader looks twice.

This paraphrasing tool works differently. It sends your text to a language model that rewrites the whole passage at once, restructuring sentences and choosing words based on what the passage means rather than swapping individual entries out of a dictionary. The result reads like something a person wrote, because a model — not a lookup table — wrote it.

How to paraphrase text

  1. Paste your text. Type or paste into the textarea. A character count tracks what you have entered, and input is capped at 3000 characters per request.
  2. Pick a mode and paraphrase. Choose one of five modes — Standard, Fluent, Formal, Simple or Creative — then press Paraphrase. Nothing happens automatically as you type: each press is a real call to the model, so the button shows “Paraphrasing…” while it works.
  3. Copy the result. The rewrite appears in a read-only panel with a Copy button that confirms with “Copied!” for two seconds. If you have hit the rate limit, a plain message tells you how long to wait before trying again.

What the modes do and when to use each

Standard keeps close to your original structure and word choices, changing only what needs to change to sound less like a copy. Use it when the draft is already mostly right and you just want it phrased differently.

Fluent smooths over awkward phrasing — clunky transitions, repeated words, sentences that trail off — without changing how formal it sounds. Use it on a draft that reads correctly but sounds stiff or uneven.

Formal raises the register: contractions disappear, sentence structure tightens, and word choice shifts toward what you would send in a cover letter or a report.

Simple prefers short, plain words and shorter sentences. Use it when the audience is broader than the one you wrote for, or when a long sentence needs breaking apart to be understood on one read.

Creative varies the wording and structure furthest from the original of any of the five modes. Use it when two passages need to say the same thing without reading like duplicates of each other.

Honest limits

Other tools on this site have an offline fallback for when the shared AI budget runs out — the text summarizer, for instance, falls back to picking out your own sentences with a non-AI ranking algorithm, which is still a genuinely useful answer. Paraphrasing has no equivalent fallback: the only thing a browser could do without a model is exactly the thesaurus-swap trick described above, and a synonym-swapped sentence is worse than no output at all. So when the limit is reached, this tool says so plainly and tells you how long to wait, instead of quietly handing you word salad.

Your text is sent to a server here. Most tools on this site process everything in your browser and never upload your file or your words — this one has to leave your device, because a language model is doing the rewriting. The limits exist for the same reason: 5 requests a minute, 30 an hour, a 3,000-character cap per request, and a daily budget shared with every other AI tool on the site.

Read the output against your original before you use it. A rewrite can change meaning in ways a spellchecker would never catch — numbers, names, negations like “not” and “never”, and technical terms are exactly where a model drifts, because it is choosing words for fluency rather than checking each one against a fact.

Rewording someone else’s work does not make it yours. A paraphrase needs a citation exactly as a direct quotation does — changing the words changes nothing about who the ideas belong to. This tool is for rewriting your own draft to be clearer, shorter or more formal.

Why is it free?

Every paraphrase costs money the moment you click the button — it is a real call to a language model, not a client-side computation, so this tool cannot run for free indefinitely the way most of the site’s other tools do.

What makes it free to use is a budget, not an unlimited allowance: a daily cap shared across every AI tool on the site, plus the per-minute and per-hour limits described above. There is no account, no sign-up, and no watermark on what you get back.
