What is a receipt generator, and how is a receipt different from an invoice?

A receipt generator turns a payment you've already received into a clean, shareable document — instead of formatting it by hand in a word processor or spreadsheet, you fill in who paid, what for, and how much, and the tool lays it out for you. This one runs as a four-step form: your details, the payer's details, the line items with a currency, tax rate and discount rate, and a final preview you download as a PDF.

The key difference from an invoice is timing. An invoice is a request for payment — sent before the money arrives, usually with a due date attached. A receipt is proof that the money has already changed hands, so it carries no due date, and this tool marks every document it produces as Paid. How to use the receipt generator

1. Add your details Enter your business or freelance name, email, address and tax number if you have one — these appear at the top of the receipt as the party who received the payment.
2. Add who paid you Enter the payer's name, email and address in the second step, so the receipt clearly states where the money came from.
3. List the items, then download your PDF Set a receipt number, the date and a currency — the currency decides how many decimal places show, since yen has none and Kuwaiti dinar has three, not the usual two. Add a line for each item with its description, quantity and unit price; quantities can be fractional, and you can type either “1,234.56” or “1.234,56”, both read the same way. Every line total is rounded before it's added up, any discount rate is applied to that subtotal, and tax is charged on what's left — all with exact integer math instead of floating-point shortcuts, so a line that a naive calculator would round down to 1.00 or 0.14 correctly shows 1.01 or 0.15. Add a note if you need one, check the live preview, then press Download PDF, which opens your browser's own print dialog — choose Save as PDF and you're done.

What this receipt generator doesn't do

This produces a clear, professional-looking receipt document — it does not make that document legally or fiscally valid in your country, and it does not connect to any tax authority. It's not a cash-register or point-of-sale receipt, and it has no fiscal printer's signature or sequential control number. For informal freelance and small-business use that's normally fine; if you're registered for tax, check what your local tax authority actually requires before relying on it.

It also doesn't record or process any payment — printing the word Paid on a document doesn't move money, it just states that money already moved elsewhere. The tool doesn't track your receipts, doesn't number them sequentially for you, and keeps no history: it's one document at a time, and your details persist only because they're saved in your own browser's local storage.

Why is this receipt generator free?

There's no account to create and no email wall between you and your PDF — everything runs in your browser, so there's nothing to host per user and nothing gating the download. There's no paid tier and no watermark stamped on the finished receipt; you get the same document whether this is your first receipt or your thousandth.
